About La Noe

La Noe began with a simple idea:

children understand difficult things better when we give them words they can actually use.

Big feelings are hard when you’re small.

Anger can feel enormous. Fear can take over everything. Being told no can seem terribly unfair. And knowing what to do when another child pushes, teases or scares you is something no four-year-old should be expected to magically understand.

That is where stories can help.

A worried mother reaching toward her small son while older kids whisper and sneer behind him
Knowing what to do when another child isn’t kind — that’s worth practising in a story first.

Stories born from real family life

La Noe is also a mother of two little rascals: a four-year-old boy and a two-year-old girl.

And many of these books begin with the same questions that come up in everyday family life.

A small boy in a paper crown and cape standing on a kitchen chair, pointing and demanding, while his mother listens
The questions that start a book usually start at home first.

How do I help my child stand up for himself without teaching him to hit back?

How do I explain anger in a way a preschooler can actually understand?

What can I say when “just calm down” clearly isn’t going to work?

How do I help a small child recognise what she is feeling before she even has all the words for it?

Those moments often become the starting point for a story.

Not because there is a perfect answer to every parenting problem. There usually isn’t.

But because sometimes a story gives us a way into the conversation.

Stories for real moments

La Noe creates illustrated books for young children about emotions, confidence, boundaries, frustration and everyday challenges.

The stories are gentle, but they don’t pretend childhood is always gentle.

Children get angry. They shout. They want things. They worry. They meet people who aren’t kind to them. Sometimes they freeze. Sometimes they don’t know what to say.

Rather than telling children simply to “be good”, La Noe stories try to give them something more useful:

words, choices and small strategies they can remember.

A sentence they can say.

A feeling they can recognise.

A way to ask for help.

A way to say no.

A way to protect themselves without hurting someone else.

No perfect children required

There are no perfectly calm children here.

And definitely no perfectly calm parents.

La Noe is built around the idea that emotional skills are learned slowly, through repetition, conversation, mistakes and lots of very ordinary family moments.

Sometimes very noisy ones.

Books can become part of that process.

A story read at bedtime today might suddenly come back to a child weeks later, right when they need it.

That little connection is what these books are made for.

Gentle parenting, made practical

I love the ideas behind gentle and respectful parenting, but I’m especially interested in what happens after the theory.

What do you actually say?

What can a small child realistically understand?

What can they do when the situation gets difficult?

Alongside the books, La Noe shares simple activities, ideas and practical tools designed for real family life.

No expectation of perfection.

Just another tool in the parenting toolbox.

Why “La Noe”?

La Noe is a small independent children’s book project built around curiosity, kindness and the belief that children deserve to be taken seriously, even when their problems look small to adults.

Because to them, they aren’t small at all.

And sometimes the right story can make a very big world feel a little easier to navigate.

Welcome to La Noe.
